#BordeandoRD: Day 4. A bit of the northwest coast.

Waking up in Montecristi, going for a walk on the beaches, finding snails of different shapes and colors, is part of the visit to this beautiful town. Knowing the small museum of the salinas, is a very enriching stop for the whole family. Walking through El Morro, visiting Isla Cabra, and enjoying the natural pools surrounded by mangroves, are some of the things you should not miss.

Our way would take us to Punta Rucia, to visit that small fist of sand in the middle of the sea, which is called Cayo Arena. To lovers of marine life, like us, it is paradise. Being able to swim with hundreds of fish, of all colors and shapes, is an unparalleled experience.

It is one of those protected places, where we can almost attest and testify that it is so. It is the only way to ensure that it lasts over time. The children gave small crumbs of bread to the fish, and the most interesting thing is that they come to eat to our hands. The tour we hired, in addition to taking us to Cayo Arena, would take us on a tour of the mangroves in the area and receive a brief explanation of the importance of these in the reproduction of marine species.

In the afternoon, and after crossing two rivers, we arrived at the Archaeological Museum La Isabela at the end of the afternoon. To our bad luck, the museum was closed. But sometimes we meet those people who make the difference; that is Mr. Roberto Cordero, that after knowing that we were coming from afar, and after explaining that we are bordering the Dominican Republic, he told us: "come here, I will give you a little tour of the ruins of the Admiral's house, the first Church of the New World and the Cementery ". The ruins are on the shore of the sea, and we were there to enjoy a beautiful sunset. That man transported us with his stories to that time. We had only to thank him for his gesture and dedication to service. Our eldest daughter was delighted to have visited that place, one of the first places that Christopher Columbus discovered in our island, and where the first church of the new world was built.

The day did not have much time left. It was just arriving at the small hotel in Luperon and getting ready to dine at Las Velas Restaurant, in Puerto Blanco Marina, where dozens of sailboats dock coming from other countries to spend their vacations.
