Ruins of Engombe, hidden in the vicinity of Santo Domingo

It was only to get out of the car and tell the children: "We arrived." Just at that moment the fun and exploration started all over the place. We began to listen to the stories that all of the sudden came out of in their heads. For us, the fact of seeing them running around, playing hide-and-seek in any of the adventures, and telling their stories, encourages us to continue walking together.

Sometimes we don´t want to go far, but still want to go places that are not well known. Well, the Ruins of Engombe is one of those places, for those who live in Santo Domingo, or at least nearby. It is located less than a kilometer away from the toll road of the 6 de Noviembre highway.

Previously it was a sugar mill, the first in the American continent, called the Santa Ana Sugar Mill (Amazing! Who would have thought?). It was declared an Architectural Monument by UNESCO, and later Parque Mirador Oeste. It is an example of the Dominican industrial heritage at the time of the colony.

Today there are the ruins of its four buildings: the palace, on two levels and with its stately style, the church, the warehouse and the mill to extract the sugar cane.

It is an ideal place to spend time with family, take advantage of comfortable picnic tables, enjoy the view offered by the Haina River that passes by and know a bit of history. It is also very popular for wedding photo sessions.

It is very important to emphasize that the place has security for the tranquility of visitors, and is in impeccable conditions of cleanliness and care.
