It was Saturday afternoon; we did not know what we would do on Sunday. But something we did have clear, and was to go out and discover a new place.

After sharing some ideas, one of our adventurous friends proposed to make a new route for everyone of us. To take Duarte highway and near Piedra Blanca, take the route to end up in San José de Ocoa, stopping at Juan Adrián and Rancho Arriba. What was there to see in these three places? We did not know...

Juan Adrián. The road that takes you there has very nice views, and in a large part of it you can appreciate the Maimón River, where we made our first stop.

Rancho Arriba. To get there you have to continue on the road going up the mountains. The temperature starts to get colder. We made a stop at the virgin, where we had the opportunity to take some pictures. Already in the center of the small town, still early in the morning, we wanted a hot chocolate. We stopped at Tell Alpin, a small family hotel with restaurant. Near the place, we could appreciate the coffee plantations.

On the way to San José de Ocoa we found something that made us all stop on the side of the road: a private farm with ostriches. Quite exotic for our country. I would say that making the trip just to see the ostriches is worth it.

Upon our arrival in San José de Ocoa, we entered the town park so that the little ones could run and release some energy. They had mentioned us a place called Sendero Los Martínez, which is between the town and the road that connects with the south of our country. It is an agrotouristic trail of about 3 kilometers, where we could see the production of avocados, carrots, the route of the apiary for the production of honey, and finally an area for vermiculture.

To access Sendero Los Martínez you have to get into the mountains in a paved road, but steep. 4x4 is not required.

In the next publication we will tell you more about that place, and about how four generations that received us, have made us come back.

We returned to Santo Domingo by taking the highway that borders the south coast of the country. Many kilometers, many memories! Here we leave the map with the route.
